Safe travel with your cat or small dog requires well constructed, and of course, fashionable pet carriers. Whether it is a quick trip to the veterinarian or travel by automobile, airplane or train, your feline carrier needs to provide safety, security and comfort. This helps reduce stress levels, protects your cat while away from home, and improves safety while your cat is in the car with you.

If an airline trip is planned, you will need to check with the airline and make sure the carrier chosen complies with the airline regulations. Different airlines have different regulations, and these also differ between the cargo and carry-on areas.Ask about the specific regulations related to size, ventilation, strength, sanitation, and design.

• Size - enough for your cat to turn freely, stand, and lay down inside, with ample space for food and/or water dishes. For longer trips, it may also need to accommodate a small litter box.

• Construction - a sturdy carrier with doors that securely latch or zipper. A water-resistant bottom with an absorbent pad helps contain any accidents and cushion your pet's ride. Many soft-sided models come with a removable fleece liner.

• Ventilation - a critical consideration if you are planning a trip of any distance or if the unit will be taken on an airline. Choose a carrier with at least 3 sides of ventilation. Some airlines require 3 ventilated sides.

• Additional Features - many carriers included additional features such as zippered pockets, leash clips, carry straps or storage areas.
