With Early Warning Indicator for Feline Lower Urinary Tract Disease (FLUTD)
Scientific Professional Cat Litter -
contains a patented early
warning indicator for Feline Lower Urinary Tract Disease (FLUTD).
In addition, Scientific Professional Cat Litter is clumpable,
100% flushable and ecologically safe for pets, people and
the planet. Scientific Professional does not contain sodium
bentonite (see below), controls odor and weighs one-seventh
of the weight of traditional cat litters (2.5 lbs works like
17.5 lbs of traditional litter).
How Scientific
Professional Cat Litter Works:
The less acidic a cat’s
urine, the more susceptible it is to forming stones or
crystals in the urinary tract. The most common type of
crystals present in the urine are struvites, which form more
frequently if pH measures 6.6 or above.
Scientific Professional Cat Litter is designed to be an
early warning system for elevated pH. The litter color
changes to varying shades of pale pink to magenta when the
pH in a cat’s urine is above normal. The darker the shade of
pink, the more serious the problem may be.
What causes urinary tract
diseases?
Because FLUTD is not really a single disease, there can be a
number of factors that cause the condition. Urinary tract
irritation may be caused by infections, tumors, urethral
plugs, uroliths (a pebble or stone), or crystals in the
tract. Feline Urolithiasis refers to the formation of stones
or crystals of magnesium and ammonium phosphate, called
struvites, that form and accumulate in the cat’s bladder.
These crystals can block the flow of urine, especially in
male cats. If the flow is completely shut down, waste
products usually eliminated through urine can accumulate in
the body. Kidney failure, coma and death can result.
Additional Features:
Due to its composition,
Scientific Professional Cat Litter weighs one-seventh of the
weight of traditional cat litters (2.5lbs works like 17.5lbs
of traditional clay litter). A 3lb bag should last 1 month
for 1 cat.
Scientific Professional Cat Litter is environmentally
friendly and does not contain any sodium bentonite.
Traditional clay-based cat litter contains sodium bentonite
as the clumping agent. Once sodium bentonite clumps, it
gains the consistency of cement. This presents a number of
problems. Once in the landfills, these sodium bentonite
based products do not break down and are creating an
environmental problem. Further, cats tend to get the litter
on their fur when they use the litter box. As reported in
the Journal of Veterinarians and Humans[1], sodium bentonite
in the litter, ingested by cats during the natural cleaning
process, can cause blockages, dehydration, and prevent
absorption of nutrients.
Scientific Professional Cat Litter also contains a powerful
odor control product, which is not enzyme based, as are most
other odor control products, so it is safe and can be
ingested by humans or animals without harm (although this is
not recommended).
Scientific Professional Cat Litter is clumpable, 100%
flushable and ecologically safe for pets, people, and the
planet.

How to Use Scientific
Professional Cat Litter:
Scientific Professional is
perfect for everyday use. If you choose to use it as a
monthly check, it should be used for 5-7 consecutive days
to check for possible urinary tract infections.
Scientific Professional is
unscented. When you open the litter and first pour it into
the litter box there may be a slight initial odor. This
will dissipate quickly- usually within minutes.
Dog not use Scientific
Professional with other cat litters. Because of the pH
indicator in Scientific Professional, mixing it with other
cat litter can cause false readings.
Dispose of older litter
and thoroughly clean and dry the litter box.
If your cat is reluctant
to use a new litter, put a layer of Scientific Professional
under your current litter to acclimate your cat. Gradually
over 1-2 weeks, as you clean the box, add more Scientific
Professional until the box contains nearly all Scientific
Professional Cat Litter. When you next clean the litter box,
wash it thoroughly, dry completely, and re-fill with 100%
Scientific Professional.
Pour Scientific
Professional evenly into the box until you have reached
about a 1.5" to 2" depth.
Clean the litter box and
examine the clumps daily. Flush clumps down the toilet or
dispose of in the trash.
Add more litter as needed
to maintain adequate depth in the box.
Stir clean
litter to maintain freshness.
